Good fences make good neighbors, 2009
(1/3) , Bronze casting 25x20x40
"Good fences make good neighbors" inspired by the poem Mending wall by Robert Lee Frost, in 2003 Ariel Sharon was quoted in regard to building the separation wall between Israel and Palestine: ''A good fence will bring, I believe, good friendship..'' in this art piece, one can see a dog laying on one side of an erected wall, while her puppies are on the other side. Osama Zatar chose to focus on nature and our effect on the nature surrounding us in the act of separation and segregation. “What did the animals do to deserve to be separated, to be restricted, to not be free to be themselves? And as a continues thought, one might ask: and what did people do to suffer the same..?” through the semi naive perspective of the dogs in this scene, on can question more sharply the act of segregation as a “solution tool” .
